SHAWNEE COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Shawnee County.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., on Friday, the Kansas Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop near the 2400 block of SE 45th street on a suspected impaired driver, according to a media release from the KBI.
Preliminary information indicates that during the administration of standardized field sobriety tests, the driver ran from the roadway and a foot chase ensued. A physical altercation occurred between the Trooper and the male subject. During the incident, a Trooper deployed a Taser, pepper spray, and fired his duty weapon, striking the man.
He was transported from the scene to a Topeka hospital. The subject is currently stable, according to the KBI.
At approximately 11 p.m., the KBI was notified of the officer-involved shooting and responded to investigate.
Findings of this investigation will be presented to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.
