Police: Kan. woman lost $14,000 in Facebook Dating scam

SALINE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a scam that cost a woman thousands of dollars.

On Wednesday, a 60-year old woman reported she was a victim of fraud in connection with a scam on Facebook Dating, according to Salina. Police.

In November 2023, the victim met a man on Facebook Dating from Kansas City, before the fraudulent occurrences started.

Reportedly, the man told the victim he was on his way to 'Malaysia for a work trip.' He allegedly advised her that he needed money to pay for 'taxes and other issues.' The victim then sent him $10,000 to cover the costs 'he needed.'

She later sent an additional $5,000 for other issues and after more requests for money, the victim eventually cut off contact with him. However, the man sent money to her, where she then redistributed the funds back to him. During that time, she received over $66,000 where she redistributed the full amount back through various payment apps.

After this, the victim contacted Salina Police about the situation. According to Salina Police, the victim currently out a total of $14,694.
