
SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with an unintentional shooting and made an arrest.
Just before 9a.m. July 3., police responded to a shooting with injury call in the area of South Hillside and George Washington Boulevard in Wichita, according to Wichita Police spokesman Bradly Wright.
Once on the scene, officers located a 12-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her stomach. EMS arrived and took her to a hospital in serious but stable condition.
Based on preliminary investigations, police believe the 12-year-old was accidentally shot by a 19-year-old suspect in the 2300 block of South Laura Street.
Wichita police arrested the suspect identified from county arrest records as Diego Moreno Espinoza of Wichita. He was also being held for federal immigration and custom enforcement and is no longer in custody in the Sedgwick County Jail, accordimg to online jail records.
