Homicide: Kansas City woman found in the grass near a road

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces multiple felony charges in connection with fatal shooting of a woman found in the grass near a Kansas City street, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Richard Gerard Harris Jr, 37, faces Murder 2nd Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle.

According to court records, Kansas City police officers were dispatched June 17, to the area of 3200 E. Linwood and found a woman later identified as  29-year-old Taylor Thomas in the grass near a road. 

She died four days later and the death was ruled a homicide. A witness told detectives that a man later identified as the Harris shot the victim. Surveillance video captured the suspect shooting the victim.

Prosecutors requested a $500,000 cash-only bond.
