Police: Man with violent history killed girlfriend's puppy

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon for alleged animal cruelty.

The Wichita police department Domestic Intervention Violence Reduction Team following up on a domestic violence threat case worked to locate 44-year-old Jesse Powell, according to officer Charley Davidson.

He was wanted on requested threat charges and police learned Powell had fatally injured his girlfriend's puppy, according to Davidson.

Police located Powell and arrested him at a home in the 4200 block of South Broadway in Wichita. He is being held on requested charges of criminal threat and cruelty to animals, according to online jail records.

He has previous convictions for stalking, forgery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated criminal threat, battery of a law enforcement officer and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
