Foreign exchange student dies in 2-vehicle Kansas crash

SEDGWICK COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 7p.m. Sunday in Sedgwick County.

A 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Varun Aithagoni, a 22-year old foreign exchange student was eastbound on 21st Street North and failed to yield at the stop sign at 391 Street West, according to Sheriff's Lt. Nathan Gibbs.

A northbound 1999 Chevy Tahoe driven by Brandon Schroeder 36,  Cheney, struck the Nissan.

EMS transported Aithagoni and the front seat passenger identified as  22-year-old Pratiksha Kunwar, also a foreign exchange student, to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 8:10 p.m., according to Gibbs. Aithagoni’s two rear seat passengers were released at the scene.

EMS also transported Schroeder and his two passengers, a 2-year-old boy and 3-year-old boy, to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and there were no signs of intoxication at this time. The incident is still under investigation, according to Gibbs.
