SEDGWICK COUNTY — Authorities are investigating a drunk driving arrest involving an off-duty police officer.

On New Year's Eve, the Clearwater Police Department notified Wichita Police officials that they had arrested an off-duty Wichita Police Department officer on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police department spokesman Officer Trevor Macy.

The officer, identified as Alex Gardinier, was arrested, cited and released by Coldwater police for a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence and speeding.

Gardinier has been employed with the Wichita Police Department for six years and was assigned to the Field Services Division. He has been moved to an administrative assignment, according to Macy.

The Clearwater Police Department is investigating the case, and an internal review will take place by Wichita police.
