MONTGOMERY COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a weekend Kansas house fire.
Just before 7p.m.Saturday, Fire-EMS responded to a house fire at 11th and Hickory in Independence, according to a media release.
First responders found heavy fire on the back of the home and detached garage with extension into the residence and attic. The fire was under control by 8 pm and crews cleared at 9 pm. The home sustained extensive damage. There were no injuries to the family and one firefighter was injured while fighting the fire.
Independence Rural assisted Independence Fire-EMS along with Independence Police Department. Authorities have not released a damage estimate.
