SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man involved in a fatal 2021 crash made a court appearance last week.
Michael Wayne Walker, 34 of Wichita, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, two counts of aggravated battery, and a misdemeanor count of drive while suspended or canceled, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In May of 2021, police arrested Walker on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and causing a crash that killed 74-year-old Rita Hawkins of Wichita seriously injuring others.
A vehicle driven by Walker was on the wrong side of the road when the crash occurred, according to Office Charley Davidson. EMS transported Hawkins and two others to hospitals where she died.
Walker is due back in court March 27. He is being held on a $100,000 bond, according to the district attorney's office.
