Sheriff: 15-year-old Kan. boy was driving with drugs, firearm

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas teenager on a variety of charges after a traffic stop.

Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2008 Chevrolet Equinox near SW Huntoon Street and SW Belle Avenue, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

During the investigation, the K9 was deployed and narcotics were located inside the vehicle.

Deputies arrested a  15-year-old boy from Topeka and booked him into the Shawnee County Juvenile Department of Corrections on multiple requested drug related charges as well as felony criminal use of a firearm, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, transport open container of liquor, driving without a valid license and tag not assigned.

The sheriff's department released no additional details.
