Man charged with rape of patients at Kansas hospital

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man accused of sex crimes involving patients at a Wichita hospital made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Miguel Rodela, 28, Wichita, was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, and two counts of battery, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office

Just after 2a.m. June 15, police responded to a call of an officer was in trouble at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, 929, St. Francis Street in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

A hospital security officer was in a physical altercation with a suspect.

When Wichita Police arrived they learned three adult female patients were allegedly sexually assaulted.

Officers arrested Rodela who is not an employee or a patient of the hospital, according to Rebolledo. 

His next court date is July 10. He remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.
