馃弨 TMP sweeps league openers at Hill City

HILL CITY - The the TMP-Marian girls and boys basketball team opened up Mid-Continent League play Friday night with a win over Hill City.

Girls: TMP 51, Hill City 32

The TMP Lady Monarchs held Hill City to just two points in the second quarter and put together an 18-4 run to end the first quarter and open the second on their way to a 51-32 win

Hill City jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but the Monarchs scored nine straight on a Sophia Balthazor three pointer, a pair of fast break baskets and a rebound and put back as the Monarchs took a 9-3 lead.

Hill City scored eight straight to take the 11-9 lead before TMP tied the game at 11 on a Jaci VonLintel field goal at the end of the first quarter.

TMP took the lead on a Balthazor steal and layup that put TMP up 13-11. They would neve trail again.

In that second quarter the Monarchs outscored Hill City 10-2 and then opened the third quarter with five quick Emilee Lane points to put TMP up 11 at 26-15.

A Kyleigh Allen three-pointer gave TMP a 29-18 lead, capping off an 18-4 run.

The Monarchs led 36-24 through three quarters of action.

Balthazor hit her second three of the game to open the fourth quarter and four straight from Kassidi Yost gave TMP their largest lead of the night at 42-24.

The went on to pick up the 51-32 win.

Game highlights

Balthazor finished with a game-high 15 points. VonLintel finished with 10 points.

Alissa Keith led Hill City withy 11 points and 8 rebounds.

TMP improved to 3-1 while Hill City dropped to 0-2.

Boys: TMP 63, Hill City 39

The TMP boys used a 21-4 first half run on their way to a 63-39 win over Hill City.

The two teams traded the lead early and Hill City was able to take an 8-7 first quarter lead.

Trailing by one, TMP's Jackson Schulte knocked in his second first-quarter three pointer sparking a 21-4 TMP run to end the first and begin the second putting TMP up 24-12.

TMP led 32-21 at halftime.

The Monarchs outscored Hill City in the third quarter 20-4 building a 52-23 lead.

TMP led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter and claimed the 63-39 win.

Game highlights

Schulted scored in double-figures for the third time in four games to open the season with a game-high 16 points.

Sophomore Dylan Werth added 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Hill City's Derek Keith scored a team-high 12.

TMP improved to 3-1 on the season while Hill City dropped to 0-2.

The Monarchs host Oakley on Tuesday.
