🏀TMP sweeps Stockton in MCL matchup

STOCKTON – The TMP-Marian Monarchs closed out the 2020 calendar year with a double-headers weep of the Stockton Tigers Friday in Stockton.

The Lady Monarchs used a quick start and several big runs on their way to a 71-25 win over the Stockton Tigers.

TMP opened the game on a 14-2 run with Emilee Lane, Jaci VonLintel and Sophia Balthazor each scored four points during the run to give the Monarchs an early lead as they cruised to the win.

After leading by 13 through one quarter of action, at 18-5, the Monarchs led by 15 early in the first quarter.

Stockton was able to trim the lead back to single digits at 23-16 in the second quarter only to see TMP go on an 18-4 run to end the first half and take a 41-20 lead into the halftime break.

The Monarchs extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 24-0.

VonLintel scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the quarter and Lane added six in the quarter.

With the continuous clock in the fourth quarter TMP earned the 71-25 win.

Game highlights

To go along with her game and career-high 19 points VonLintel collected a career-high eight rounds.

Balthazor added 14 for TMP.

Olivia Dix scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for Stockton.

TMP improves to 4-1 and 2-0 in the MCL. Stockton falls to 0-5 and 0-3 in the MCL.

Boys: TMP 67, Stockton 45

The TMP boys used a 26-6 run to end the first-half and open the second half as they pulled away for a 67-45 win.

The Monarchs shrugged off a slow start to build a seven point lead twice in the first quarter, the final time at 15-8 at the end of the quarter.

The Monarchs built an 11-point lead, at 22-11, early in the second quarter but Stockton was able to answer right back closing the gap to two late in the quarter on an 11-4 run. TMP led 26-22 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter Stockton again cut TMP’s lead to two but TMP put together a 26-6 run ending the third quarter and into the fourth to grow the lead to 59-37 lead.

Jackson Schulte scored 10 of his game-high 22 points during the run and Jace Wentling added six of his 11 points.

Game highlights

Dylan Werth added 15 for TMP as they improve to 4-1 and 2-0 in the MCL.

Ethan Means Stockton with 16 points.

Stockton dropped to 1-4 and 0-3 in the MCL.

TMP returns to action at Sacred Heart on Jan. 8.
