15-year-old charged for bringing gun to Kan. high school

JOHNSON COUNTY—A 15-year-old arrested after allegedly bringing a gun to school on Monday has been charged with firearm possession by a felon, juvenile in possession of a firearm and interference with a law enforcement officer, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

Police took the student into custody at Shawnee Mission South High School, 5800 W 107th Street in Overland Park Monday afternoon, according to Overland Park Police.

Another student at the school reported the firearm to an administrator. Officers were then able to take the student into custody and remove the gun.

The school was placed on lockdown until police arrested the student. The 15-year-old made a first court appearance in the case Tuesday afternoon.
