SHAWNEE COUNTY—A firefighter was injured while fighting a house fire overnight in Shawnee County.
Just before midnight Tuesday, fire crews were dispatched to a house fire at 1520 SW Randolph Avenue in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Alan Stahl.
Crews reported light smoke coming from the front door of the home. The fire was extinguished, keeping it contained to the room where it started.
A preliminary investigation indicates the cause of the fire as Accidental; more likely than not associated with an unattended candle, according to Stahl. One firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury while fighting the fire. American Medical Response treated the firefighter at the scene and then transported to Stormont Vail for additional treatment. The occupants of home escaped unharmed.
The estimated total damage is $60,000; $45,000 loss to the structure and $15,000 contents loss.Working smoke detectors were present within the home, according to Stahl.
