EL PASO, Texas –A day after President Joe Biden inspected a muddy stretch of the U.S. -Mexico border, Senator Jerry Moran join a bipartisan group of senators touring various points along the U.S. border in El Paso, Texas.
For Biden, it was his first trip to the region after two years in office, a visit shadowed by the fraught politics of immigration as Republicans try to blame him for the record numbers of migrants crossing into the country.
“This is my third visit to the border,” said Sen. Moran, in a media relase from his office. “I want to see if there is any progress being made, but mostly I want to hear from the people who are involved in enforcing our laws and what tools they need, what help they need to get this crisis under control.
There’s a humanitarian issue here, there’s a law enforcement issue here, there’s a national security issue here, and this place needs a lot of attention.”
“We’ve been insisting that the President see what goes on here for a long time, but what strikes me is that there was no outrage, no stated recognition, that we have one of the most significant crises in our country right here on this border,” Sen. Moran continued.
“We’ve had two years of the Biden administration and things have gotten worse, not better. From my perspective to be here, to talk to actual border agents, there is a different feel when you can have a conversation face-to-face.”
