Family pet dies in rural Kansas house fire

RILEY COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home in rural Riley County.

Just after 9:30p.m. Sunday, fire crews responded to a fire in a home in the 4600 Block of Freeman Road after a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the residence called 911, according to a media release.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. First responders found a family pet dead inside the home.
