16-year-old Kan. boy dies after rollover crash into power pole

SEWARD COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 2a.m. Sunday in Seward County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Dodge Charger driven by  Augustus J.  Riley, 16, Liberal, was eastbound on Seward County Road 9 approximately three miles north of Liberal.

The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 83 and Road 9 becoming airborne.

The driver lost control of the car when it landed to the East of U.S. 83 on Road 9. The car entered a side skid, traveled into the south ditch, rolled an unknown number of times and struck a power pole. 

Riley was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Horning Funeral Home. He was properly restrained, according to the KHP.
