SHAWNEE COUNTY —A Kansas home was damaged in a fire early Friday.
just before 1 a.m., crews responded to a house fire at 4324 SE Massachusetts Court in Topeka, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.
First responders found a single-story house with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure. Firefighters performed a primary search and found no occupants were home at the time of the fire. The fire was extinguished and contained to the home.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental. The total loss was approximately $80,000. The home had no working smoke detectors, according to Nichols. Authorities released no additional details.
