ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating suspect in connection with alleged child abuse.
Just after 8a.m. on Saturday police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block South 10th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. It was determined that a child less than two years old had been struck multiple times.
Police took 28-year-old Zachary Voelker into custody at the scene. During his arrest he was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Voelker is being held on requested charges of aggravated battery, abuse of a child, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The child did not require hospital care, according to Wilson.
