Couple from Phillipsburg hospitalized after pickup strikes rail

PHILLIPS COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just before 9:30a.m. Friday in Phillips County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1998 Ford F150 driven by James Edgar Bass, 61, Phillipsburg, was westbound on U.S. 36 one mile west of Prairie View.

The driver had a medical episode causing the pickup to strike the bridge guardrail on the south side of the road.

The pickup then crossed the roadway striking the guardrail on the north side. The pickup came to rest one mile east of the bridge on the south side of the road.

EMS transported Bass and a passenger Wanda Lee Bass, 60, to the hospital in Phillipsburg.  Both were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
