2 Kansas men dead, another injured after head-on crash

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Two Kansas men died in an accident just after 3:30p.m. Monday in Shawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 Ford F150 driven by Thomas Mika, 61, Topeka, was northbound on K4 two miles west of Kansas 24

The pickup left the roadway to the right and the driver over corrected.

The pickup returned to the road, crossed left of center and struck a  southbound  2020 Chevy Equinox driven by Gerald Counter, 74, Topeka head-on.  After impact, the pickup overturned and the driver was ejected. 

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and were transported to Frontier Forensics. EMS transported a passenger in the Chevy identified as Daniel Starkweather, 58, to Stormont Vail. Mika was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
