CLAY COUNTY —Two people died in an accident just before 5p.m. Saturday in Clay County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2001 Ford Ranger driven by Richard T. Jackson, 18, Clay Center, was eastbound on U.S. 24 seven miles west of Clay Center.
The pickup crossed over the center line, entered the westbound lane and struck a 2004 Toyota Sienna driven by Johnathan L. Wright, 47, Shawnee, head-on.
Two passenger in the Toyota Robert M. McCollum, 72 and Alma J. Wright, 79, both of Gardner were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
EMS transported Jackson to Salina Regional Health Center and two other passengers in Toyota Sharmen S. McCollum, 55, and Gary W. Wright, 80, both of Gardner to Stormont Vail. Jonathan Wright was not injured. Robert McCollum and Alma Wright were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
