Police: Suspect in SW Kansas struck officers after running from crash

FINNEY COUNTY —Police arrested a hit-and-run suspect Saturday night after he fled a crash and assaulting Officers during the arrest.

Just after 10:30 p.m., police responded to a reported hit-and-run crash near 4101 E. US Highway 50, according to a media release.

Police learned that a pickup truck was speeding when it struck a tree, and the driver ran from the crash. Officers quickly located the suspect, identified as Jorge Cardenas, 22, in the area.

When approached, Cardenas attempted to run and became combative as he was apprehended, striking Officers before being taken into custody.

Cardenas was booked into the Finney County Jail on requested charges, including Battery Law enforcement officer, Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, Transporting an Open Container, and Duty to Report Accidents. Officers were not injured and returned to duty.
