SHERMAN COUNTY—Law enforcement released additional details on activity that prompted a shelter in place in Goodland early Monday.
Just before 10p.m. Sunday, police responded to a reported domestic incident at a home in the 400 Block of East a4th Street in Goodland, according to a media release. Officers determined the suspect used a knife in an attempt to stab a female victim, resulting in cuts to the victim's hand.
The victim left the home and went to the local hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.
Police along with Sherman County Deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers attempted to make contact with the suspect at the residence. The suspect failed to respond and barricaded himself inside the home.
Due to the violent nature of the situation, the KHP Special Response Team responded. This team made multiple attempts through the night to establish contact with the suspect. He refused to respond or comply.
At 7 a.m., Monday, the KHP team located the suspect in the attic of the residence and took him into custody without further incident. There were no further injuries reported. The suspect faces multiple felony charges.
