Update: 2 inmates who escaped from county jail back in custody

COWLEY COUNTY — Two inmates who walked away from the Cowley County jail on Sunday are back in custody, according to Cowley County Emergency Communications. Authorities provided no additional details late Sunday.

COWLEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating how two inmates walked away from a Kansas County Jail.

Just after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, 26-year-old Rocky Leroy Brown and 19-year-old Noah Jaymes Oates  left a work detail in the sanitation area of the jail and escaped from the custody of the Cowley County Sheriff's Office, according to a social media report from the Cowley County Emergency Communications.

The pair were least seen walking on Loomis between 9th and 10th Street in Winfield.

Both are wearing tan pants and white t-shirts. Brown has previous convictions for theft, burglary and criminal possession of a firearm. He is described as 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
