Wanted man injured after falling 30 feet into ravine near Kansas City

CLAY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities spent most late Sunday and early Monday searching for a suspect in the woods approximately 30 miles northeast of Kansas City.

On Monday, the Excelsior Springs Fire Department executed a rope rescue of the injured man who had fallen down a 30+ foot ravine,  according to the Excelsior Springs Police.

On Sunday the man had fled from officers into a tree line. Despite officers searching for an extended period of time, they were unable to locate him due to the dark and heavily wooded nature of the search area.

At first light, officers returned and resumed their search, eventually locating him. Medical aid was immediately called for and, just before the rain and lightening rolled in on Monday. the man was successfully rescued.

The suspect sustain serious injuries. He was being treated at an area hospital. The police department thanked the fire crews for their hard work.  Police did not release details on what charges the man might face when he is released from the hospital.
