
GEARY COUNTY —A fire at a rural Kansas home caused an estimated $100,000 dollars in damage early Tuesday.
Just after 7:30 a.m., the Geary County Fire Department was dispatched to report of a fire at a home five mile west of Junction City at 2519 N. Dietrich Road, according to a media release.
A shed located to the residence was fully engulfed and was spreading to the home. First arriving units were able to get a good stop on the fire in the residence, containing it to one room. The fires were extinguished and the fire was under control at 8:32a.m. The residents were not injured. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The fire was caused by heat lamps in the shed igniting straw there for chickens being raised. The chickens perished in the fire. Damage is estimated at $100,000.00.
