iPhone notification led police to double-fatal Kan. crash, fire

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a double fatality crash involving a single vehicle that occurred just after 10:30p.m. on Saturday.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Northgate Street and East Harold Street in reference to an iPhone crash notification, according to Olathe Police Sergeant John Moncayo.

Upon arrival, officers observed a passenger vehicle that had struck a tree and was actively engulfed in flames. The Olathe Fire Department was also on scene and extinguished the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, the bodies of two individuals were found inside.

There does not appear to be any signs of criminal activity, and the identification of the deceased occupants is pending an autopsy.
