KANSAS CITY, Kan. —Police investigating a fatal crash into a house on New Year's Day have identified the victim as 71-year-old Richard Lewis, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas, according to KCK Police Officer T.J. Tomasic.
Just after 12:15a.m. Saturday a vehicle was westbound in the 1800 Block of State Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to a media release from KCK Police. The driver lost control of the vehicle. It left the road and struck a house.
Emergency crews extricated the driver from the house. EMS transported the driver to an area hospital in serious condition, according to police. The passenger, later identified as Lewis, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation. Police did not release the driver's name early Monday afternoon.
