The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday that its President & CEO, John Rolfe, has resigned from his role to pursue new opportunities, according to a media release from the organization. John led the Chamber in this leadership role since October 2021.

“The Board thanks John for his leadership and service to the organization over the past four years, and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Gabe Schlickau, 2026 Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “While transition is never easy, the work of the Chamber continues as our Board and staff remain focused on delivering results aligned with strategic priorities for our business community.”

“We want to thank John for his leadership at the Chamber and wish him the best in his next endeavor.” said Victor Ojeleye, Immediate Past Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “John’s leadership at the Chamber led to the achievement of several strategic accomplishments. These include completing the three-year strategic plan, leading successful advocacy programs, and executing talent and strong business initiatives.”

Under Rolfe’s leadership, the inaugural Military Affairs Council was established to strengthen the partnership between McConnell Air Force Base and the business community. During Rolfe’s tenure with the Chamber, he also played a key role working to improve advocacy with the Kansas congressional delegation, state and local leaders.

The Chamber’s Board has implemented an interim leadership structure to ensure continuity of operations and commitment to its mission during the transition. The interim plan taps the experience and leadership of Walter Berry, who is a well-respected Wichita businessman and former Chamber Board Chair. Berry will serve as Executive in Residence for the Chamber, providing strategic oversight and consultation to ensure organizational effectiveness, while maintaining continuity of vision.

“We have a legacy of impactful work at the Chamber, and the importance of our mission to our membership and the broader business community remains as strong as ever,” said Berry. “I’m excited to work with the Board and Chamber staff to ensure this impact continues.”

While Berry will serve in a consultative leadership role, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer Brecken Morel will serve as the Chamber’s interim president and CEO managing day-to-day operations until such time as the Board appoints a permanent leader. Morel joined the Chamber in 2025, bringing extensive process and management experience to the Chamber. The Board is actively evaluating long-term leadership needs aligned with the Chamber’s mission and strategic priorities.

“As the region’s leading business advocacy organization, the Chamber remains focused on championing the policies, programs and partnerships that strengthen the Wichita regional economy and support the growth of the businesses it serves,” said Schlickau.
