Woman dead after 4-vehicle I-70 crash

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 5 p.m. Friday in Leavenworth County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Elania King, 17, Topeka, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near Bonner Springs. As the Nissan passed a 2024 Isuzu driven by Gabino Garcia, 53, Kansas City, Kansas, the Nissan drifted and collided with the Isuzu.

The impact cause Garcia to lose control of the Isuzu. The vehicle traveled across the eastbound lanes and over the median barrier wall.  The Izusu then collided with a 2018 Acura ILX driven by George Barrett, 63, Abilene, in the westbound lanes of the Interstate.  

After impact with the Acura, the Izusu rolled and collided with a 2019 Infinity X50 driven by Douglas McCann, 54, Kansas City, Missouri, in the outside lane of westbound traffic.

EMS transported Garcia, McCann and a passenger in the Infinity identified as Lili McCann, 50, Kansas City, Missouri, to KU Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.  EMS transported King to Children's Mercy.  The other drivers  and three juveniles in the Nissan were not injured.  All eight were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
