DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with a burglary. Just before 11p.m. March 20, police in Lawrence responded to a burglary in progress call and found two injured men.
Police arrived at the apartment near 6th and Maine in Lawrence and saw the described suspect sitting on the curb. After some difficulty getting him to cooperate, officers were able to safely get him detained.
The other person was inside his apartment. The resident says he was sitting outside enjoying the weather, when a man he didn’t know went inside his apartment and tried to take his wallet.
A violent fight began and the resident says he was eventually able to get the man out, shut the door, and call for help.
Both the resident and suspect were taken to the hospital. Neither suffered life threatening injuries. The suspect was later transported the Douglas County Correctional Facility. Police did not release the name of the suspect or the possible charges he will face.
