SUMNER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged animal cruelty and seized dozens of dogs.
On September 23, Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to check the welfare of several dogs located at 1076 West 120th Avenue in rural Conway Springs, according to the sheriff's office.
The owner of the property, 46-year-old Samuel Roman, is a licensed breeder who recently had his license suspended by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
Deputies observed multiple dogs in deplorable conditions, poor health, suffering from malnourishment and old injuries.
Deputies observed three dogs with fresh traumatic injuries that did not appear to be receiving medical attention. They were seized immediately and transported by Wellington Police Animal Control to Heersche’s Animal Clinic where they received care and treatment.
On September 28, Sumner County Deputies along with the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Winfield Police Department, Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol served a search warrant on the property.
Officers seized 65 additional dogs ranging from puppies to adults. Animal Rescue operations, Beauties and Beasts, Golden Belt Humane Society, Caring Hands Humane Society were instrumental in transporting and finding foster homes for the animals.
Deputies arrested Roman on requested charges of Cruelty to animals.
