POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY —Authorities in Pottawatomie County have released the name of the woman who died in the tornado on Tuesday.
According to Becky Ryan, Pottawatomie County Public Information Officer, 58-year-old Ann Miller died from injuries in the tornado.
Just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, an EF3 tornado struck the Pottawatomie County community of Westmoreland with wind gusts of 140mph, according to a preliminary damage survey by the National Weather Service in Topeka.
Miller was a long term county resident and a county health department employee.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross is establishing a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) in Westmoreland to aid residents impacted by the tornado.
The MARC will serve both direct victims and those indirectly affected, including families. It will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5 at the Methodist Church, located at 109 Main Street in Westmoreland.
Agencies will be located in the education building immediately south of the church.Visitors to the MARC will have access to a wide range of services from various agencies, including but not limited to:• Pawnee Mental Health• American Red Cross• Pottawatomie County Appraiser’s Office• Pottawatomie County Health Department• AT&T• The Salvation ArmyResidents affected by the disaster are encouraged to take advantage of the support available at the MARC, and community members are urged to spread the word about this important resource.
