Kansas man wanted for July murder captured, held on $1M bond

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal July 16 shooting have arrested 35-year-old Emmanuel Rashad Walker, according to online jail records. Authorities booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections at 6:30p.m. Tuesday. 

Police have not released details of the arrest.

On July 16, police were dispatched to report of a shooting in the 900 Block of SW 8th Street in Topeka, according to Police LT Ronnie Connell.

First responders found 34-year-old  Kirk Sexton suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Several days later, Topeka Police issued an alert for help to locate Walker in reference to the homicide investigation.

Walker is being held on a $1,000,000.00 on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree; Intentional and premeditated, criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated battery, domestic battery, assault, criminal trespass, burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, interference with law enforcement and a number of traffic violations, according to online jail records.

Walker has previous convictions for aggravated assault in 2009 and for, obstruction and drug possession in 2019, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections
