Suspect in custody after shots fired at deputies in Saline Co.

SALINE COUNTY —A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting at sheriff's deputies in Salina.

Just after 11:45p.m. Thursday, sheriff deputies responded to 2407 S Woodward Road in rural Saline County for a report of an open 911 line with some type of disturbance in the background, according to a media release.

First responders found a woman resident with injuries who fled the residence and gunshots were heard. A short time later more rounds were fired from the residence towards deputies on scene outside of the residence.

The Salina Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Bureau of Investigation responded to the residence with armored vehicles and response teams.

During the overnight hours there were several instances of rounds being fired towards officers at the scene and the armored vehicles were struck several times. No firearms were discharged by law enforcement during this incident.

A search warrant for the residence and arrest warrant for the 57-year-old owner of the residence, Collin Wade Campbell were issued.

Response teams introduced irritants into the residence and breached the residence taking Campbell into custody for a number of requested felony charges including Attempted Murder and Kidnapping of the female resident and six counts Aggravated Assault of a Law Enforcement Officers and a misdemeanor charge of Domestic Battery. Additional charges are expected in this incident.

Collin Campbell was taken to the hospital and after being cleared by the medical staff he will be booked into the Saline County Jail.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been requested to assist in processing the scene.
