BROWN COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating several complaints about political signs being stolen, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.
"I have been asked if it is illegal. The answers is yes it is illegal and falls under the theft statute. Depending on the number of signs stolen and their value, the theft could be classified as a felony." "Defacing political signs falls under criminal damage to property statue."
According to the sheriff, those reporting the sign thefts have indicated that they will press charges if suspects are caught stealing political signs.
