KANSAS CITY—A juvenile faces charges for his role in a break-in and assault that occurred at a residence in a Kansas City suburb last year.

Christian Shirley is charges with 1st Degree Assault and 1st Degree Burglary, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

Shirley was certified by a Family Court judge last week.

According to court records, Blue Springs police responded to a residence on a burglary call on September 29, 2025. The calling party told officers that someone broke into her home and attacked her daughter who was asleep in the living room. The victim woke up to a pillow being held over her face. When she was finally able to stand up, the intruder fled through the back door. The victim had visible injuries to her neck, consistent with being strangled or smothered.

Detectives collected fingerprints on the back door and DNA found on the victim’s clothing and both matched  Christian Shirley.

In an interview with police, Shirley admitted he entered the residence, but said his friend did the strangling. The friend the defendant said was involved was excluded as a DNA contributor.

A Jackson County judge set Shirley's bond at $100,000 cash only.
