KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in Kansas City have identified the two who died as 42-year-old Kristen Fairchild of Gardner, Kansas and 42-year-old Marcell T. Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri.
Just before 9p.m. Friday, a Kansas City Police officer called for officer assistance at 31st and Van Brunt Blvd in Kansas City, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Responding officers were then informed shots had been fired. Upon arrival of the responding officers, they observed one officer and five individuals.
Three of the individuals had apparent gunshot wounds. Nelson was critically injured and officers provided first aid but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. EMS transported the remaining wounded individuals to a area hospitals where Fairchild died No officers were injured.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
