SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a man and woman for the abuse of two young children.
On Monday, a Topeka area hospital notified the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office of the alleged abuse of a five-year-old girl, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.
During the investigation, it was discovered that two siblings, a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy had both sustained serious injuries during the events.
Both children were placed into police protective custody. Deputies arrested 28-year-old Ryan D. Wayman and 25-year-old Ellen R. Wayman booked them into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
Ryan Wayman has been charged with the felony crimes of abuse of a child; torture or cruel beating a child and aggravated battery, according to the sheriff's office. Ellen Wayman has been charged with the felony crime of aggravated endangering a child.
