
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an injury accident and have made an arrest.
Just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communication Center received a report of a rollover accident in the 5200 block of Southwest Burlingame Road, according to Deputy Abigail Christian. Upon arrival, deputies located a silver 2005 Volkswagen Jetta facing southbound in the east ditch.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the Volkswagen was traveling northbound on SW Burlingame Road when it left the roadway to the east, struck a culvert and came to rest upside-down, facing southbound, in the ditch.
EMS transported the driver identified as Jimmy D. Landis, 36, of Topeka, and two juvenile passengers a 6-year-old and 5-year-old to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police later arrested Landis and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of aggravated battery, aggravated child endangerment, battery of a law enforcement officer, interference with medical personnel, interference with law enforcement, child restraint violations, driving under the influence and driving while suspended.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone who may have stopped and assisted with this incident, prior to the arrival of first responders, or anyone with information please call.
