KCPD: 2nd victim dies from injuries in June mass shooting

KANSAS CITY—A second person has died from a mass shooting that occurred June 14 in Kansas City.

KCPD homicide detectives were notified 44-year-old Ronnie Hardman was pronounced deceased by hospital staff Thursday morning, according to  Officer Alayna Gonzalez.

Just after 1:30 a.m.  June 14, patrol officers were dispatched to 35th and Prospect on a reported shooting. When officers arrived they were directed to the gas station parking lot. They located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  Officers began performing live saving measures and ordered EMS to the scene. On scene officers located a total of four victims. An adult female victim had critical injuries, one adult male victim had critical injuries, and two adult male victims had non life threatening injuries.

All of the victims were transported to local hospitals. The adult female victim, later identified as 24-year-old Monique K. Smith was pronounced deceased a short time later by medical personnel.

Additional officers responded to a separate shooting, a short distance away, in the 2000 block of East Linwood where an adult male victim was located.

Police determined his injuries were as a result of the shooting at 35th and Prospect. He was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Police have not reported an arrest or possible suspect details in the case.
