MORTON COUNTY —Authorities are investigating after a southwest Kansas firefighter died from being shocked by power lines while working at the scene of a traffic crash.
Just before 6p.m. Sunday, the firefighter and a sheriff's deputy were the first to arrive at the accident scene just south of Rolla, according to Morton County Emergency Management.
In the process of searching for victims of the rollover crash, the first responding firefighter received an electrical shock from damaged power lines. CPR was initiated by responders on scene with assistance from Morton County EMS who arrived on scene.
The firefighter was transported to Morton County Hospital where he later died. The firefighter's name has not been released.
