KHP IDs 16-year-old who died after car struck a tree

STAFFORD COUNTY—A Kansas teen died in an accident just after 7:30a.m. Monday in Stafford County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 16-year-old Shane Riley Sheets of St. John was eastbound in the 100 block of NE 20th Street.

The car entered the north ditch and struck a tree. Sheets was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Minnis Chapel. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

USD 349 has counselors and staff  available to meet with students and staff throughout the day and throughout the week.

STAFFORD COUNTY — The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating after a student from Stafford High School died in a car accident early Monday, according to USD 349 and the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Counselors and staff are available to meet with students and staff throughout the day and throughout the week, according to the school district.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has not released details of the crash including the name of the student who died.
