GREAT BEND —Law enforcement authorities investigating a homicide in Great Bend have made an arrest.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers with the Great Bend Police Department were dispatched to the 1400 block of Lakin Avenue in Great Bend in reference to a 911 hang-up call, according to a media release.
Upon arrival, officers were advised that a subject had been shot in the backyard. Officers located a female victim who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect, identified as Keegan Martens, white male, 19, had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. Martens was later located in Salina, Kansas, where he was taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Barton County Jail, where he remains in custody.
The Great Bend Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Barton County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Salina Police Department.

BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a homicide in Barton County and have a suspect in custody.
Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to the homicide on the east side of Great Bend. Responders from the Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff's Office, and Kansas Highway Patrol set up a perimeter in the area, and a KHP airplane was utilized in the search. Areas were searched near the 1400 blocks of Park and Broadway, along Frey Street and the 281 Bypass, and as far north as 20th and 22nd Streets.
The first plane left the area at approximately 4 a.m., and a second plane was arriving as the suspect was apprehended. Police have released no additional details. Check the Post for more information as it becomes available.
