
SHAWNEE COUNTY— Fire crews found an unusual source of a house fire in Topeka.
Just after 11a.m. Friday, firefighters responded to a house with smoke coming from a basement window at 1901 SW Randolph Avenue, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found light smoke coming from the house. They forced entry to the residence and were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The residents were not at home at the time of fire.
The preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, related to charging batteries for remote controlled cars. The estimated dollar loss – $12,500.00; of which $10,000.00 is associated with structural loss and smoke damage and $2500.00 associated with contents loss, according to Harrison
Two adults and 2 children were displaced as a result of the fire. Working smoke detectors were located within the structure of fire origin
