Felon who held Kan. jewelry store staff at gunpoint captured

FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an armed robbery and have a man with a history of crime in custody.

On May 4, police responded to an armed robbery at Joyeria America jewelry, 308 W. Fulton Street in Garden City where a man entered the business, held an employee at gunpoint, and stole property before fleeing the scene.

On July 1, police were dispatched to Tacos El Tapatio,  1203 E. Fulton Street for an armed robbery and learned that a suspect held employees and customers at gunpoint before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money.

Through an investigation, 49-year-old Alberto Rincon was identified as the suspect responsible for both robberies.

On July 4, officers conducted a traffic stop on Rincon at the intersection of 8th and Campbell Streets in Garden City but Rincon refused to stop, and a police pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit traveled east out of the city before ending at Hillcrest Road. Rincon then ran from the vehicle before being apprehended. Officers located a firearm and drugs on Rincon.

There were no injuries reported from the pursuit, and the Finney County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the incident.

Rincon is being held on numerous requested charges including Aggravated Robbery, Flee and Elude, Interference LEO,  Aggravated Assault LEO, Aggravated Battery, Possession of a Stimulant, Possession of a Hallucinogenic with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Reckless Driving.

Rincon has previous convictions for aggravated battery, flee or attempt to elude police, criminal discharge of a firearm and Driving Suspended 3rd or subsequent conviction.
