
OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — A Paola man has pleaded no contest in the stabbing death of his girlfriend’s ex-husband in Shawnee.
Vincenzo Anecio Lucasta, 52, pleaded Wednesday to second-degree intentional murder in the death of 57-year-old David J. Paterno in Shawnee, The Kansas City Star reported.
Officers found Paterno surrounded by blood inside his home on Aug. 8, 2018 after a neighbor reported hearing a loud fight and seeing a man with a knife leave the house, according to court records.
Lucasta was arrested a week after the killing and charged with first-degree murder.
He pleaded no contest to the lesser charge, in a deal that caps his possible sentenced at 21.5 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 14.
