SHAWNEE COUNTY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of a weekend house fire.
Just after 9a.m. Saturday, fire crews responded to the fire at a home at at 1600 S.W. Clay Street in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the two-story home. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack, keeping the fire confined to the structure of origin. Firefighters established a defensive fire attack. Once conditions allowed, firefighters performed a primary search and found no occupants. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire was intentionally set, according to Harrison. The estimated dollar loss – $12,000.00; all of which is associated with structure loss.
Working smoke detectors were not located within the structure of fire origin.
